Six Seconds That Changed The World

Via Against Monopoly and many thanks to Jim Lippard for bringing it to my attention.

This video details the unlikely history and sad implications behind an extremely influential B-side drum break from 1969.

Enjoy!

There's a likely incomplete list of songs using the Amen break here.

Orbital's "Satan" is one song that uses it, according to this list...

Thanks, Jim. Definitely an incomplete list. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 3 additional songs that use it. I'm sure if I combed through my music collection I could find a dozen more on top of that.

I suppose, though, that the non-Jungle applications of the break are more interesting than the Jungle ones.

Fascinating stuff! Thanks for posting this! I've got the actual promo to UK Apache and Shy FX's "Original Nuttah" , as well as the Hrvaski and Squarepusher full lengths' mentioned here-- all of which are excellent. I can't even begin to imagine how many other tracks in my collection were influenced by this break! Now I feel obligated to track down the original, out of respect at least. Anyhow, expect that package to arrive (hopefully succesfully this time) soon.
